95 per cent of employers send their staff to high risk locations

International SOS, the global medical and security assistance company, has conducted a study that shows 95% of global companies have sent employees on business trips to high-risk locations.

The top 20 countries deemed as ‘high-risk’ include key high-growth locations and emerging markets; India was ranked fifth, China was three places behind, Russia 14th and Brazil 16th.

International SOS is asking companies to be aware of their duty of care when sending employees to these dangerous locations for the good of the employee and the business. Furthermore to avoid criminal prosecution – companies can be held criminally responsible for harm to employees in high-risk locations.

A third of respondents are unaware of the legal requirements for a duty of care provision within the companies that they operate.

Arnaud Vaissié, Co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive of International SOS, says: “We are committed to helping companies, such as the Global 500, to implement effective duty of care strategies. Our study has found that such approaches are clearly linked to commercial success, and yet there are still varying levels of awareness among senior management and key stakeholders.”
