International SOS and Control Risks are closely monitoring developing events in Egypt, on behalf of their clients.

The two companies are liaising with organisations that have a presence in the country and that may have concerns over any possible impact of the current situation on personnel and operations.

The International SOS and Control Risks alliance brings together the extensive global network and expertise of both companies. Clients are currently receiving detailed advice, which includes the following:

• Defer non-essential travel to Egypt until the situation stabilises.
• Personnel in Cairo should remain at a secure location.
• Travellers in affected areas should minimise all movement, particularly in the vicinity of Rabaa and Nahda squares.
• Observe curfew hours and abide by the instructions of the authorities. This may include restriction of movement in certain areas.
• Carry relevant identification at all times to ease passage through security checks.
• All demonstrations should be avoided as a security precaution. Unrest is likely, particularly during gatherings focussing on government buildings, security directorates and political party offices. These locations should be strictly avoided.

Members are being encouraged to monitor our regular travel security alerts on Egypt for further updates. They can also access our services via the International SOS assistance app or call one of the 27 International SOS assistance centres.

In July, International SOS and Control Risks deployed a full incident management team to Cairo, to support clients with detailed and real-time advice.

At that time support was offered to over 2,800 registered expatriates - some with families - living and working in Egypt. In addition, support was provided to around 100 clients with more than 1,200 business travellers.

There were a number of evacuations of university students and representatives using commercial air and secure ground transportation.

TravelTracker 6
The two companies recently unveiled TravelTracker 6 – a travel security solution designed to handle stressful events such as illness, accidents, political unrest and natural disasters. This is the world’s most advanced online travel security tool, helping employers keep their people out of danger when travelling overseas.

Traveltracker was pioneered by International SOS in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001.  It was the first online tool to allow clients to identify the location of their employees quickly and reliably, while sending health and safety travel alerts based on their location.
