Incident in Westminster - updated 23 March 2017

Avoid the Westminster area following a suspected terrorist attack near the Palace of Westminster (commonly known as the Houses of Parliament) yesterday. An assailant at around 14.40 (local time) on 22 March drove a vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before crashing into railings. The same man then attempted to enter the Palace of Westminster and carried out an attack on a police officer before being shot by armed police.
- Continue to avoid the Westminster area, Parliament Square, Whitehall and Westminster Bridge. All entry roads to Parliament Square remain closed to traffic. Victoria Street at the junction with Storeys Gate towards Parliament Square, Millbank, Constitution Hill from Hyde Park Corner, the Mall from Trafalgar Square and the Victoria Embankment up to the Embankment Underground (tube) are closed until further notice (see map).
- Expect a heightened security force presence and travel disruption in the area and follow all directives issued by the authorities.
- Expect residual disruption on the city's public transport.
- Report any suspicious activity to the authorities by dialling 0800 789 321 or 999 in case of emergency.
