International SOS and Control Risks assist more than 100 organisations in Egypt

Medical and security experts at the two companies are continuing to offer information and advice to clients in Egypt, whilst the political situation remains unpredictable.

The International SOS and Control Risks alliance brings together the extensive global network and expertise of both companies. In recent days it has provided real-time information to more than 2,800 registered expatriates, some with families, living and working in Egypt. Simultaneously, by using their online tracking tool (TravelTracker) the two companies have made preparations to assist 1,224 other travellers from 98 clients currently scheduled to be in Egypt.

International SOS and Control Risks have issued 48 Egypt alerts or updates by sending information directly to clients, making it available online or pushing it to the smartphone Assistance App. They also held a global webinar for more than 400 clients, alongside a briefing session on the ground in Cairo.
International SOS and Control Risks have so far managed over 180 cases for more than 100 separate organisations. They have also evacuated a number of university students and representatives using commercial air and secure ground transportation.

“Most of the requests we’ve received so far have been for updates and advice,” said Aldric Ludescher, Security Manager for International SOS and Control Risks in the Middle East and North-East Africa.

“Companies are trying to sift through the hype and rumour to get accurate information in order to make rapid decisions. Our ability to provide current situation overviews with verified ground-based information has been critical for our clients."

As many companies were caught off guard during the Arab Spring, International SOS and Control Risks have worked closely with clients to build security evacuation plans, assess their risk in locations throughout Egypt, and help them better understand their organisational tolerance for different types of risks.

“By understanding potential problems and triggers for evacuation, we have enabled our clients to make the best decisions for their company and employees,” Ludescher continued. “Every situation is different and it is often better to have travellers remain in place than it is to evacuate them. In most cases, it comes down to whether they can continue their business operations whilst remaining safe.”

The Incident Management Team has provided on-the-ground reports, observing key locations and trouble spots every day. This operation has been directly supported by staff in the Dubai, London, Frankfurt, and Singapore offices and by client liaison teams worldwide.
