International SOS launches Novel Coronavirus website for clients

With death rate of over 50%, the international medical community is watching the novel coronavirus situation very closely.  So far, all known infections occurred on the Arabian Peninsula (Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia). How these people were infected is yet unknown.

International SOS’ ‘Novel Coronavirus’ website will help clients monitor the development of the virus and its potential to cause a pandemic. The website includes useful subsections on the virus’ background, summary of cases, news, travel advice, FAQs and resources with links to the CDC and WHO.

Dr Doug Quarry, Group Medical Director, International SOS indicated: “Our information and advice is compiled from our doctors at hundreds of sites worldwide, epidemiological data feeds, government agencies, public health bodies and client reports. After the first cases of novel coronavirus were announced, we updated our medical alerts and conducted proactive client outreach. In particular, we focused on client communications surrounding the Hajj, drawing 2.8 million pilgrims to Mecca and Medina in late October.”

This endeavour joins other International SOS dedicated medical websites for SARs, the Boxing Day Tsunami, H5N1 ‘Avian Flu’, H1N1 ‘Swine Flu’ and the Japanese Tsunami and Nuclear Disasters.
