Around eight million fans are expected to visit France during Euro 2016, the matches that determine the continental European football champion.

As with all high-profile events with a large number of attendees, we recommend fans and travellers consider the following safety tips.

Attending the Matches

• Be prepared to react and have an action plan ready when attending large, public events
• Review transportation options for getting to and from event. Taxis or walking may be safer than public transportation.
• Consider ways to avoid congestion and heavily populated areas. This could include going to the matches early or leaving after the majority of attendees.
• Keep a photocopy of your ID and a hard copy list of emergency numbers.
• Be aware of the impact of alcohol on your judgment.
• Monitor the news and follow official security advisories.
• Be aware of your surroundings and remain vigilant of suspicious activity.
