Tensions in North Korea

Heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula has raised concerns that military hostilities are imminent. Despite the heated rhetoric of recent weeks, International SOS and Control Risks assessment of the situation indicates that the likelihood of military action between the North Korea and the US and South Korea is low. However, due to the current volatility there is the potential that the situation could change very quickly and result in a rapid escalation of events and conflict.
In preparation in case of an escalation of the situation, we are advising organisations and members to:
- be prepared to defer non-essential inbound travel at short notice
- review business continuity plans
- identify ‘stand-fast’ locations with several days of supplies in case the situation prompts the closure of local airports
- plan should include provision for internal relocation of employees or withdrawal from South Korea at short notice
