US Temporary Immigration Restrictions

30 January 2017 ,  —

London

Members travelling to and from the US should anticipate heightened security at airports and land border crossings nationwide following the signing of an executive order detailing new immigration procedures. These include a 90-day ban on Iraqi, Iranian, Libyan, Somalian, Sudanese, Syrian and Yemeni nationals entering the US, as well as the prohibition of all refugees from entering the country for 120 days. After 30 days, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will determine which countries do not provide information sufficient for their citizens to be issued US visas.

Demonstrations in response to these new rules at some international airports could also have an impact on airport access and travel delays: Members should monitor airport and airline websites and our alerts for up to date information.

Travellers who might be affected directly by the changes should contact their local US diplomatic mission should they require clarification on their immigration status and allow additional time at airports for check in and security procedures.
