Zimbabwe elections travel security update

29 July 2013 ,  —

London

International SOS and Control Risks are providing detailed travel security advice to clients ahead of elections in Zimbabwe on 31 July, 2013.

The presidential and parliamentary ballots are the first nationwide elections since the contested polls of 2008, which sparked widespread violence.

Experts at International SOS and Control Risks - the world's leading travel security alliance - are advising travellers and expatriates who live in-country.

There is a possibility that the results of the elections will be controversial and disputed. A high degree of preparation and readiness is required, including thorough reviews of security and evacuation plans.

Travellers and expatriates are being advised to:

Postpone non-essential travel.
Undertake essential travel with flexible itineraries.
Be prepared to cancel trips at short notice.
Expect increased scrutiny by the security forces.
Clients and members can seek further advice by contacting one of the 27 International SOS assistance centres.

Real-time updates are also available via the International SOS membership website, or the smartphone assistance app.

The London assistance centre can be contacted on +44 (0) 20 8762 8008.
