Wellness programmes aim to improve employee health. Many organisations implement them because;
  • There are arguments in favour of increased productivity, reduced injury and  improved safety and reduced healthcare costs
  • They are encouraged to do so by government health and safety regulators who  preserve and promote health

Wellness programmes require buy-in from senior management to successfully lead a safety culture among employees. They are set up to be a major corporate programme that aims to alter the health culture and beliefs of employees by:
  • Improving diet
  • Taking regular exercise
  • Reducing weight
  • Stopping smoking
  • Reducing alcohol intake
  • Measuring health parameters such as body mass index and blood glucose for employees and giving medical advice
