International SOS Namibia was founded in October 2001 upon the merger of ‘Medical Rescue International’, which had been providing emergency medical services in Namibia since 1993, and ‘Aeromed’, which had been operating in the country since 1995. Today, International SOS Namibia operates a 24-hour medical assistance centre located in Windhoek, which is seamlessly linked into the rest of our global network. The centre always has medically qualified staff on duty and can activate Fire, Police and Ambulance services at any time, anywhere in the country.

In order to provide emergency medical support to clients across the vast country, we have established permanent bases in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Tsumeb, supported by a fleet of 6 dedicated response vehicles and road ambulances distributed strategically throughout Namibia. Our air ambulance, a King Air 90 is based in Windhoek can also be used to provide emergency assistance across the country and elsewhere in the region. International SOS Namibia employs 49 staff members, of whom 29 are medical professionals. Our clients include Medical Aid providers, large insurance companies such as Alexander Forbes and Mutual & Federal, governmental agencies, corporations in industries such as energy, mining and large-scale construction and banking, and individual travellers and expatriates. We currently support a number of remote site projects throughout Namibia in the procurement of medical supplies, and the provision of medical staff and emergency medical assistance in accordance with international standards.

International SOS Namibia has been licensed as a Ministry of Health training centre and we provide basic and advanced first aid to an average of 100 Namibians per month. Our training programmes have recently been expanded to include the provision of fully accredited Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to medical professionals based in Namibia. In addition to medical assistance, we offer specialised products such as road and legal assistance.
